Skidmore Men’s Soccer Looks to Seal Championship

Battling their way into the Liberty League finals with a 1-0 win over Hobart, the Thoroughbred’s Men’s Soccer team has enjoyed a tremendous season thus far. They boast an overall record of 11-5-1, with five of those wins coming from what senior captain Mario Hyman ’16 described as an “extremely unpredictable” Liberty League Conference. On Grieving Mechanisms: An open letter to the Skidmore Community in response to this weekend’s tragedy

At the same time, while we’re here, it is easy to believe that Skidmore is a sheltered vessel from the anxieties and disfigurements of the real world. It is not that we lack a broader awareness necessarily, but sometimes there is an unreality to what goes on beyond the confines of the little collegiate world we belong to. This weekend was a reminder of the unrelenting motion of that world.

Letter to the Editor: End the Dry Campus, Make Falstaffs a Bar

The entire Skidmore family is grieving over Michael’s death and Oban and Toby’s injuries at the hands of a drunk driver, and this includes alumni around the country. To paraphrase the Skidmore News’ recent editorial, “it could have been any of us.” We remember making the same treks off campus to the same houses; right down Clinton Street to Daniels Road, to Stables or Alpine. At least, those of us who attended Skidmore after the college changed its alcohol policy in 2005 remember. You see, this tragedy has been ten years in the making, and may require some contextualization that current students may not be equipped to provide.
