Wireless internet connections have been a continual issue at on-campus residences this year. Despite many isolated issues and slow speeds in previous years, this school year has seen large blanket outages, including one that affected residences last weekend.

Skidmore Men’s Soccer Looks to Seal Championship
Battling their way into the Liberty League finals with a 1-0 win over Hobart, the Thoroughbred’s Men’s Soccer team has enjoyed a tremendous season thus far. They boast an overall record of 11-5-1, with five of those wins coming from what senior captain Mario Hyman ’16 described as an “extremely unpredictable” Liberty League Conference. No team in the conference has been able to separate themselves from the rest of the pack the way the Thoroughbreds have, due to the equality in the level of competition...
Read moreOn Grieving Mechanisms: An open letter to the Skidmore Community in response to this weekend’s tragedy
At the same time, while we’re here, it is easy to believe that Skidmore is a sheltered vessel from the anxieties and disfigurements of the real world. It is not that we lack a broader awareness necessarily, but sometimes there is an unreality to what goes on beyond the confines of the little collegiate world we belong to. This weekend was a reminder of the unrelenting motion of that world.

The entire Skidmore family is grieving over Michael’s death and Oban and Toby’s injuries at the hands of a drunk driver, and this includes alumni around the country. To paraphrase the Skidmore News’ recent editorial, “it could have been any of us.” We remember making the same treks off campus to the same houses; right down Clinton Street to Daniels Road, to Stables or Alpine. At least, those of us who attended Skidmore after the college changed its alcohol policy in 2005 remember. You see, this tragedy has been ten years in the making, and may require some contextualization that current students may not be equipped to provide.

Read moreEditorial: Classroom Conversations Cripple Dissent
Since we are a primarily liberal, democratic school, progressive professors often express their personal ideals and political thoughts in a way that suggests they believe all students in the classroom will inevitably share their views on issues like race and politics. Subsequently, our community tends to only embrace one way of thinking.

A Look at Courses Being Offered for the First Time Part Two
Last week I covered some of the new classes being offered for the first time this coming spring semester in hopes of helping students decide what courses to take, and making the master schedule look less overwhelming. Since course registration has yet to happen, I have reached out to a few more professors to see what new courses are being offered in their departments.
