This season has come with significant changes to the world of designer fashion, with several notable fashion houses taking on new creative directors. The infamous Demna Gvasalia, known for his work at Balenciaga, is one such notable example. Gvasalia recently debuted as creative director of Gucci in Milan to much excitement and divided opinions, while his old role at Balenciaga went to designer Pierpaolo Piccioli, who previously worked for Valentino.

As the beginning of fall approaches, I can’t help but turn to my favorite media to get into the fall spirit and prepare for spooky season. I think it’s safe to say that fall has some of the best aesthetics, especially in Saratoga Springs, with plenty of beautiful trees beginning to turn. 

On Wednesday, September 24th, the Woman of Color Collective hosted their first-ever mixer in the Wyckoff Center. The event saw students from a diverse range of class years, backgrounds, and identities attend a relaxing afternoon of coloring and chit-chatting with peers.

“You only truly know how much you love something when you get a sense you may be losing it,” spoke Stephen Colbert at the 77th Primetime Emmys after taking home the award for outstanding talk series, despite the show's cancellation.    

This past Friday, the Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Gallery (or simply “The Tang,” as it is known to students) opened its doors to the Skidmore community to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The museum, named after Class of ‘61 alumna Frances Young Tang, was designed by the architect Antoine Predock and first opened in 2000.

Chappell Roan is the name on everyone’s lips in 2025. She’s known for her upbeat indie pop songs like “Pink Pony Club” and “Hot to Go!” as well as her slower, more introspective sapphic hits, such as “Casual” and “Good Luck, Babe!” But although she is seen positively by her fanbase, she faces controversy due to her media presence.

A 19-year-old boy drops out of college and travels from St. Louis County, Minnesota, to New York City with a guitar and a case of harmonicas. That same night, he has his first gig at Cafe Wha?---a club described as “a subterranean cavern, liquorless, and ill-lit.” Dylan is called the “voice of a generation,” and he goes on to change the future of folk music.  

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour came to an end on December 8th, 2024, after almost two years. Her three-and-a-half-hour-long concert prominently featured all eras of her music from her eighteen-year career. Swift has not only left an impact on modern music and performance but also a lasting economic impact on all the cities she’s visited. 

Black Super Hero Magic Mama, written by Inda Craig-Galván and based on a true story, is coming to Skidmore on November 22. This is the first play by a Black playwright to be presented as a seminar production by the college. During this past month, I sat down with the cast members and asked their thoughts and experiences working on this production and why its story is important to them. 

Big Show was a hit this October! With performances by Natasha Bedingfield and Towa Bird on October 26, Skid Kids were delighted to attend the festivities in the Williamson Sports Center gym. Eager to hear Natasha and Towa, students lined the front of the stage as soon as the doors opened.
