Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 7:00 p.m. - Whole Grain: Choreo-cinema of Maya Deren

Deren was an influential director and performer who is often called the “mother” of avant-garde filmmaking (new and unusual experimental ideas). Her films are poetic and instructive, and offer insight into the human body and mind.

Coining her own unique aesthetic of choreo-cinema (blending choreography with the art of filmmaking), Maya Deren’s films are nothing short of distinctive. These films, projected in 16mm, reflect Deren’s fascination with motion and showcase consideration of choreography and cinematic direction shape these movements.

She led a life full of exciting experiments and went by her own rules, so don’t miss a chance to see her work.

Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7:00 p.m. - 8 Tables

It may be snowing outside, but believe it or not, fall has just begun! Celebrate the cozy weather with festive crafting! Join the Tang’s Student Advisory Council and channel your inner elementary school self with eight different tables of crafting and free food. Make friendship bracelets, paint pumpkins, knit a warm scarf,  create a fall wreath, write festive poetry, beautify mason jars, craft button art pieces, and decorate cookies.

This even is in collaboration with Knit Witzs, Random Acts of Crafts, and Flutters of Hope, a local non-profit whose goal is to support, educate, and advocate for anyone who has been impacted by an eating disorder. Participants at the event will create weighted lap pads that Flutter of Hope gives to individuals who are in treatment at Albany Medical Hospital.
