Socially Distant Activities

With all the risks that come with interacting with others, many of the activities we are all used to doing have unfortunately become impossible, and now that the weather is starting to get cooler, it can be harder to find socially distant ways to hang out with people. Here are a few ideas for ways to stay connected while staying safe!

1.      Walk though Northwoods or down North Broadway

With many classes and events happening online, we are all sitting at our desks much more than normal, so taking a walk is a way to see your friends and stretch your legs! Northwoods has several paths of differing lengths and is a great place to look at all the leaves as they are changing colors. If you walk towards Falstaffs you will find the Red Trail, which is a nice medium length walk, but it is always fun to explore where the different trails will take you! Halloween decorations are also starting to go up on North Broadway, so take a stroll with some friends to check those out!

2.      Play an online game (but in person)

Most of us have become quite familiar with playing online games over the summer, and even though we are on campus, we can still play them! Since board games are not always adaptable to social distancing, you can bring your phone or laptop and sit (socially distant) with your friends to play some games! Pictionary and telestrations work well with small and large groups.

3.      Virtual movie night

As the weather gets colder, we will have to embrace technology again to keep ourselves connected, but still safe. Movie nights in someone’s room or apartment are a thing of the past, but luckily many streaming services have developed ways for people to watch movies together, but separately. Netflix Party has become a classic, but Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Disney Plus have made their own built-in versions.

 4.      Grab some friends and attend an event

Departments and clubs have been working to create socially distant events, so take a look at SkidSync and check it out with some friends (or alone)! Many of the events are open to the general Skidmore community, but if you have any questions just message the club/department! All events have specific precautions in place to create as safe of an environment as possible, and they are a great way to hang out with friends and try something new.

5.      Just talk!

In a time of chaos and confusion, sometimes it is best to just talk with your friends! Sitting outside is an option (if you bring a jacket), and Case Center is open for you to sit and talk with your friends (masked and six feet apart, of course).
