Lively Lucy’s is the hub of all things music and performances here at Skidmore College. The club puts in endless hours every week to provide Thoroughbreds with top-notch entertainment on Thursday nights in Falstaff’s. Specifically, Lively’s books bands to play on campus, as well as hosts open mics for students to perform. Two of Lively Lucy’s members, Maddie Aiken ‘23 and Gabby Paisner ‘24, spoke to Skidmore News about how they see their club as valuable to Skidmore’s community.
Aiken is the Social Media Coordinator for Lively Lucy’s. The welcoming community surrounding Lively Lucy’s is what drove her to run for the position. Aiken further mentioned that “this semester has been way cooler [than last semester] because of the lifting COVID-19 restrictions and because of our president Kate [Egan, ‘22]! She’s so good at getting everybody to work together and making awesome stuff happen!” Aiken, Egan, and the rest of the club have worked diligently to create fun and safe events for students to attend. Once a month, the club hosts open-mics as well, so even the non-musicians can get up on stage and showcase their performance chops. When asked if there was anything she’d like to promote, Aiken noted that Clifford will be playing April 14th, as well as a Battle of the Bands happening in April as well. So, pull out your calendars and make sure to follow the club’s Instagram @livelylucys!
Meanwhile, Paisner is Lively Lucy’s Art Director. Paisner makes posters to promote the club’s events, “which can take upwards of 8 hours sometimes.” As a transfer student, Paisner has never experienced Lively Lucy’s, or Skidmore as a whole, without the presence of COVID-19. However, that hasn’t stopped her or the club from having a good time. For Paisner, she attributes most of her friends from Lively’s, calling it “a really special club.” Furthermore, she thinks that “everyone is looking for a space to have fun and safely connect with other people after so much isolation.” When she’s not making awesome posters for Lively’s, Paisner is a student compost manager.
You don’t need to be a member of Lively Lucy’s to go to the events. Every Thursday, the club is hosting some unique event at Falstaff’s. To see the club in action for myself, I went to the show on March 8. Masks were required for entry, promoting a safe space for people who are immunocompromised. If you find yourself having a Thursday night free, pop in! Lively Lucy’s is an environment that promotes good energy and musical bonds. Rock on!
