Big Green Scream Recap: From the Wins, Losses, and Ice Cream Names

Skidmore’s annual Big Green Scream took place this past weekend and featured the men’s and women’s basketball teams playing league-foe Clarkson University in their last home game of the season. The event pleased a huge crowd with free t-shirts, a raffle for a 32 inch flat-screen TV (which I wish I entered) and, most importantly, the unveiling of the Stewart’s Shop-Skidmore hybrid ice cream name. Whether you went and want to relive the magic — or the flu got you and you couldn’t make it — here is your recap on the Big Green Scream.

The women’s basketball team finished with a 66-40 win over Clarkson University. The team honored seniors Lilly Berg ‘20 and Jessica Centore ‘20, who both helped their team pull off this big win. Centore led the team that night with 13 points and four rebounds, while Berg finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Thoroughbreds set the pace early, making five out of six from the field in the first quarter. By the end of the first half, the Thoroughbreds led 28-18, and continued this stamina going into the last half. The team only widened this lead, and eventually took home the win.

As for the men’s game, the Thoroughbreds fought hard and finished with a 74-63 loss to Clarkson University. Sitting in the crowd, you could definitely feel the frustration over some calls, but everyone was on their feet to cheer on the team. Seniors Pat Gallagher ‘20 and Jordan Cole ‘20 were honored before the game, finishing with seven rebounds and two boards, respectively. Leading the team was Tautvydas Kupstas ‘23 and Ty Lamport ‘21, who both finished the game with 17 points each. The team saw a great comeback effort in the second half, after ending the first half trailing 37-25.

Both teams travel to RIT this weekend to wrap up their regular season.

During halftime, the large crowd got to watch a game of musical chairs where instead of sitting immediately when the music stopped, participants had to make a layup and then race back to the chairs. If that wasn’t entertaining enough, Sustainable Skidmore showed everybody how to properly sort their trash in a game of recycling roulette. Rithmos also performed and got the crowd excited for the second half of the men’s game.

And now for what you really came for: The new ice cream flavor name. Stewart’s Shop handed out free samples of their classic Mint Chip ice cream, now being called “Skid Mo’ Mint,” which got a louder cheer at the game than the alternative “Creative Mint Matters.” The renamed flavor will be available at ten local Stewart’s Shops starting in March, so be on the lookout!
