Top 5 Physical Activity Classes to Take Before you Graduate

As registration for the spring semester rolls around, we all know the feeling of not getting into a class we wanted to take, or cramming for those few credits to get to the 12 minimum Skidmore requires for full-time students. Sigh. But why not fill those credits by taking a physical activity class? Hey, if you’re going to work out, you might as well get credit! Here are five recommended physical education classes you should take before you graduate:

1) Self-Paced fitness

With eight sections being offered with start times from 8:35 a.m. — if you’re feeling really motivated — to 1:25 for those that like to sleep in, there is no reason not to take this class. Only one credit and two times a week, you’re staying in shape and getting an A! Go get fit and boost your GPA! A win-win.

2) Beginner’s Racquetball

Grab some friends and get your tennis sneakers on as our second recommended class is beginner’s racquetball. Taught by a slew of Skidmore Varsity Coaches, this class is a must take. Even if you have no hand-eye coordination and you trip over your feet while walking, you can still enjoy some friendly (or unfriendly) competition, all while getting credit! And maybe if you like it so much, you will move onto intermediate racquetball in the fall.

3)  Power and Agility Training

Do you wish to get fit, toned, and “swoll”, but walking all the way to the sports center is tiresome? Well, have no fear, by taking power and agility training, you’ll be forced to make the walk because guess what? You’re getting credit to work out! Fun! Three sections are being offered, making it a perfect add-on class to get you to your desired credit amount. Also, rumor has it that lifting weights is therapeutic? Maybe? Take this class and find out.

4) Swim for Fitness

Our fourth recommended class is for all you aquaholics out there! Swim for fitness (two offered sections) is a good way to get into the pool and do some laps, all while getting credit! If this class seems too intense for you, there are also beginners (one offered section) and intermediate (one offered section) swim being offered, making it easy to get some swimming in. Although you’ll start to smell of chlorine — even after you shower, trust me —you’ll build your cardiovascular health and gain some muscles!

5) Stress-reduction and Wellness

Let’s face it, college is stressful. Why not learn how to control that stress and take care of yourself for one credit? Our last recommended physical activity class is Stress-reduction and Wellness. With only one section being offered, you might want to scribble the CRN number in your notebook and enter this class in first. It offers a retreat in the chapel where people learn to meditate efficiently and how to relax in stressful times.
