What to Do Weekly: 10/03-10/09

The start of a new month brings more fun and engaging activities to add to that ever-growing to-do list. Keep reading for all the can’t-miss action happening at and around Skidmore this week.

#1) Learn what’s up with Washington right now. A lot of important events, controversies and history-shaping moments are happening in the country right now, and nobody should be left uninformed. Head on over to Emerson Auditorium this Thursday, Oct. 4, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. as Professor Edward F. Kammerer of the Political Science department speaks on the upcoming Supreme Court term. Kammerer will discuss all the pressing issues facing the Court this year, including abortion regulation, immigration detention, discrimination laws and much, much more.

#2) Play some dodgeball in the dark. Skidmore is kicking off Oktoberfest yet again with their yearly array of activities. A fan-favorite that should be on your radar is the annual Dodgeball in the Dark event. The game takes place this Thursday, Oct. 4, on Case Green from 6:00-9:45 p.m., and it’s all you need to feel fit, fun and fall festive.

#3) Join the movement: radical self-love and body empowerment. A talk, book sale and book signing all in one event. Come hear Sonya Renee Taylor—author of The Body is Not an Apology and founder of the self-love social network of the same name—speak in Gannett Auditorium from 8:00-9:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8.

#4) Get spooked with a haunted Saratoga ghost tour.  From Friday, Oct. 5 until Saturday, Oct. 6, Haunted Saratoga Ghost Tours will host guests on their 90-minute walking tours. The tour starts at Broadway and Congress Park, from 7:00-9:30 p.m.  Ghosts are included, and are all quite friendly and guarantee an interesting historical and story-filled experience.

#5) Travel the world in a day at Saratoga’s International Flavorfeast. The 5th annual foodie event is back this Saturday, Oct. 6 from 11a.m.-4p.m. right here in the downtown streets of Saratoga. Guests can pick up a map at the corner of Broadway and Division street in front of Fingerpaint Marketing to chart out the day, experiencing the flavors of the world through Saratoga’s greatest chefs and restaurants for just $1 per sample.
