Disney Plus’s New Releases: What to Watch This Fall

It’s fall, which means it’s time to bundle up in your sweater, drink some warm apple cider and put a movie on while the wind swirls leaves outside your window. But what to watch? You’ve already seen every Disney movie multiple times, and you’re searching for something new. Not to worry - these new releases are the perfect way to enhance your lazy fall day.

Hocus Pocus 2, a sequel to the beloved 1993 Hocus Pocus, was released last month and can be viewed on Disney Plus. According to IMDB, the movie depicts two young women who accidentally bring the Sanderson sisters to modern-day Salem and stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking havoc on the world. The film stars Bette Milder (Winnifred Sanderson), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sarah Sanderson) and Kathy Najimy (Mary Sanderson). These actresses return to their previous roles with just as much vigor and wit as before.

Disney recently announced that Hocus Pocus 2 set a new record as the most watched Disney Plus original film during the three days following its release. However, not all reception to the film has been positive. Texas mom Jamie Gooch recently did an interview with CBS, during which she said: “Hocus Pocus 2 will release hell on your kids.” The mom accused the movie of preaching satanism and witchcraft, which is laughable - obviously, it’s about witchcraft, but it’s also fictional and fun.

It seems that Disney is focusing on sequels, because Disenchanted, the sequel to the iconic 2007 movie Enchanted, will be released on November 24 on Disney Plus. The film will star Patrick Dempsey (Robert Philip), Amy Adams (Giselle), James Marsden (Prince Edward), Idina Menzel (Nancy Tremaine), Maya Rudolph (Malvina Monroe) and Gabriella Baldacchino (Morgan Philip). The return of these beloved characters bodes well for an excellent, enjoyable movie.

The film takes place ten years after the events of Enchanted. Giselle moves out of New York City and into the suburbs of Monroeville with her husband, Robert, and her teenaged stepdaughter, Morgan. Despite the family's initial thoughts, the town is not as peaceful as it seems - Malvina Monroe, who oversees Monroeville, causes trouble for the newcomers by attempting to dissuade them from living in their new town. When things start to go wrong, Giselle wishes her life was a perfect fairytale. Her wish backfires, and she must rush to save her town and the Kingdom of Andalasia by midnight.

Hocus Pocus is a wildly fun movie for the Halloween season that will keep audiences young and old engaged; one can hope that Disenchanted echoes the mystical, fairytale feel of the first movie.
