Interested in everything Saratoga has to offer? Here are some of favorite places among students for you to check out during your weekends and spare time. Take the CDTA bus that stops frequently in the case center parking lot, and head to downtown Saratoga to browse its many shops and restaurants.
UNCOMMON GROUNDS
402 Broadway
Move over Starbucks and make room for another — local — coffee shop: Uncommon Grounds. Hankering for an assortment of bagels? Look no further. Want to stay healthy? Find different kinds of smoothies, too. This is a great breakfast or cozy study spot, as they have many comfy chairs and tables. The vibe inside is relaxed and perfect for spending time with friends sipping some hot — or iced — coffee.
SARATOGA GELATO
458 Broadway
Gelato, gelato get your gelato here! Differing from ice cream in the way that it is denser and creamier, Gelato also has more milk than cream. If you want to get your hands on some, Saratoga Gelato has many flavors to choose from — including some dairy-free options. They also sell milkshakes and pastries inside.
MRS. LONDON’S BAKERY
464 Broadway
Craving something sweet? Head over to Ms. London for pastries such as croissants, cakes, cookies, macarons, and freshly baked breads. They also sell grilled sandwiches and soups, if savory is more your thing. Some recommendations are the almond flavored Alsatian Croissants and the chocolate macarons.
CANTINA
408 Broadway
Perfect for a dinner date and girls’ night out, Cantina serves delicious Mexican-inspired food — from tacos and burritos, to salsa and chips. Be sure to try their Cantina Nachos dish which has a much-welcomed spicy kick to it. On the weekends, it’s a good idea to make reservations as this spot is a town favorite and does get crowded.
RAVENOUS
21 Phila St.
A trendy breakfast spot — because of their nice décor and the open kitchen — can be found in Ravenous. The restaurant’s ambiance is relaxed, and you don’t feel rushed to finish your meal even when it is busy, making it a nice way to start your morning. If you’re in the mood for crepes, check no further. From savory to sweet crepes, there is something for everyone.
BOW TIE CRITERION CINEMAS
19 Railroad Pl
If you’re a movie lover, then stop by Bowtie and catch the latest movie. Skidmore students get a discount on movie tickets (as if you needed another great reason to go) and the movies are discounted on Tuesdays. Don’t forget to purchase some popcorn to snack on during the movie!
FARMERS MARKET
High Rock Park
Start your weekend mornings off right at the Farmers Market. Open Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., it is a must for everyone. There are numerous vendors selling freshly brewed coffee, fruits, produce, smoothies, breads, and more. There is also music that echoes through the crowd with live acoustic performances. Another bonus is the fact that it is a dog hotspot; there is no shortage of dog petting opportunities.
NORTHSHIRE BOOKSTORE
424 Broadway
Looking for a new and interesting read? Then Northshire Bookstore is the place to visit for books and small gifts. They sell books of all types and genres, and small knick-knacks such as calendars, stationary, magnets, and games. An extra bonus: Skidmore students get a discount here, too, with a flash of your ID card.
Honorary mention:
SARATOGA APPLE INC
1174 NY-29, Schuylerville, NY 12866
Another must for Skid students is making a trip down to this lush apple orchard in the fall. Once there, you’ll find more types of apple trees than you can choose from. No worries; you can purchase a bag and fill it up with all types. Bring some friends and pick all the apples. There are also great photo opportunities at the orchard, plus you get a nice walk with some stunning nature views.
