What to Do Weekly Nov. 07 - Nov. 13

Only a few short weeks before Thanksgiving break, and with tons of new things to do. Cruise into the holiday season with this week’s What to Do Weekly:

#1) Learn a new hobby. The Saratoga Winter Club is offering a pretty cool opportunity for residents to learn how to speedskate, courtesy of an Olympian herself: Amy Peck. In classes held on Nov. 8, 13 and 15, participants can experience dry-land preparation, safety instruction and, of course, on-ice time, with the option to skate with the club on Nov 27. Why not head into the winter season gliding on ice?

#2) Get environmentally friendly. In an event aptly titled “Earth’s Last Straw,” Saratoga resident Jill Fecteau will discuss her grassroots environmental campaign that involves convincing companies to switch from single-use to reusable straws. Head over to Ladd 307 at 7pm tomorrow (Nov. 8) for a talk about plastic waste, small-business initiative and the chance to win your own reusable straw.

#3) Laugh for a good cause. The Nostalgia Ale House & Wine Bar of Malta is hosting a night of charitable comedy to raise money for the Veterans & Community Housing Coalition. This night of good fun will be held this Saturday, Nov. 10 from 8-10pm, with 100% of proceeds going towards helping veterans.

#4) Get artsy. Show out for the 4th Annual Holiday Art Fair happening Saturday Nov. 10—Sunday Nov. 11 from 10am-4pm at the National Museum of Dance in Saratoga Springs. Experience the city’s handmade, gift-worthy jewelry, pottery and more while enjoying the café and live performances.

#5) Help out. This Saturday, Nov. 10 from 10am-2pm marks the first day of the 40th Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive at William C. Keane Elementary School in Schenectady. Volunteers are needed on-hand for the seven days, but this Saturday is when people can sort through the food donations that make up the boxes for Concern for the Hungry. Don’t miss out on this amazing way to give back at the start of the holiday season.
