For the past year, the Skidmore News has been reporting on the new furniture that Case will be receiving (A Facelift for Case Center and A Change to Case Center Furniture is Finally Starting to Take Shape). The process of getting the new furniture for this area ultimately took much longer than anticipated, as part of the furniture order was backordered.
In one of the Skidmore News previous articles, A Change to Case Center Furniture is Finally Starting to Take Shape, Director of Purchasing Carol Schnitzer, is quoted saying that “there is one longer lead time item for the new furniture that is up to 12 weeks for manufacturing which puts the installation of the new furniture into mid-April.”
Mid-April rolled around, and no new furniture had been delivered and installed on the second floor of case outside Burgess Café. On April 5th, Gail Cummings-Danson, Interim Dean of Students and Vice President for Student Affairs, told co-editor in chief of the Skidmore News, Billie Kanfer ‘16, that the new furniture would arrive in time for her to be able to sit on it before she graduates, but that it might end up coming during Senior Week.
Over the weekend of April 30th signs were seen around Burgess Café and the second floor of Case reading “Please note-this furniture will be removed Monday afternoon to make room for the new [furniture] coming on Tuesday. Please make other arrangements from Monday afternoon thru Tuesday until the new furniture is installed.” As of around 1pm on Monday, May 2nd a group began removing the furniture, starting with the couches in order to install the new furniture on Tuesday May 3rd.
