New Library Hours Costs Nothing Additional

When members of the Skidmore library staff used to open the library at 8:00 am on a weekday, they would almost always find students waiting to enter. They “tend to make a beeline for the printers” once the doors open, said Marta Brunner, a Skidmore College Librarian.

Since November 1st, the library has been opening at 7:30 instead of 8 on weekdays. However, this adjustment was not a result of the work SGA did last year in evaluating the library hours (Click here for Skidmore News’s previous coverage on this), which determined that there was not enough demand for 24/7 access to the library.  The hours are being adjusted because “once we understood that there are few, if any, other printers that students can access before 8:00 am classes, we realized that we really ought to find a way to provide students with that access,” Brunner said.

Opening the library 30 minutes earlier will not cost anything additional, because one of the library staff members has willingly adjusted her schedule. Furthermore, other members of the staff will take her place if she cannot make it to the library at 7:30 to open it.
