Saratoga’s food scene has always been stylistically diverse and almost always expensive. Burgerfi, a new franchise of the quickly expanding Florida based burger chain, opened on Broadway in late October. This fast-food casual restaurant offers traditional and unique burgers and fries. They also serve milkshakes, custards and local craft beers for those over 21. Patrons can get away with paying as little as $5.57 for a simple single burger, while the more lavish CEO burger, which boasts a bacon-tomato jam and truffle aioli, or bacon cheeseburger, will require just a few more bucks.
We tested out a couple burgers, but started with a traditional burger (the Burgerfi Burger) for those of you interested in playing it safe. This burger allowed for lots of customization of toppings. To make this burger a little more exciting, we tested the Burgerfi sauce, a housemade, mayonnaise-based sauce with secret ingredients. The sauce was definitely a nice touch, making this meal distinctive compared to other burger competitors. Despite the topping choices, we were not given the option to choose how we wanted the burger cooked (it was prepared well done).
For the adventurous bunch, The Conflicted Burger is a worthwhile option. Made up of two patties, (one vegetarian and one beef), lettuce, tomato, cheese (we withheld the cheese) and the house special sauce, the burger is an interesting blend of a classic burger accompanied with a potato-and-vegetable patty. Despite the double patty, this burger was still a reasonable size.
Burgerfi also offers plain, cajun, and parmesan fries. The potato portion of each order is characterized by a crispy large-cut fries skin still on. Another side you may feel tempted to try is the onion rings. This option is a time-tested classic, but recommended only for those who are feeling quite hungry – the rings are about the size of your face.
Burgerfi is a great place to go if you are craving a burger or looking for a quick meal. Even on a busy Saturday that left the restaurant almost completely full, we only waited for about 15 minutes. Burgerfi is definitely gaining popularity among the Skidmore community, so do not be surprised if you run into a professor of yours while you are there (we did), but we will definitely be going back.
